Return of Budhoe reclaims the legacy of General Buddhoe, the freedom fighter and labor organizer whose leadership helped force the emancipation of enslaved Africans in St. Croix in 1848. Rather than portraying liberation as an act granted by colonial power, the work centers Budhoe as an agent of resistance, returning not as memory, but as presence.

The commanding central figure advances through a charged landscape of movement and confrontation, embodying collective defiance and ancestral resolve. Surrounding figures echo the urgency of uprising, while layered mixed media blurs past and present, suggesting that the struggle for justice is neither distant nor complete.
